Chittagong Hill Tracts is the home of 11(eleven) ethnic communities with diverse culture, traditions, and languages. Ethnic communities are such as Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Tanchangya, Lushai, Pankhua, Bawm, Mro, Kheyang, Khumi and Chak. Their traditions are noticeably different from other mainstream Bangali speaking people of the country.

Chittagong Hill Tracts lies on the southeastern part of Bangladesh, bordering with international boundaries of Myanmar on the southeast, Indian state of Tripura on the north, Mizoram on the east with high hill ranges as well as Chittagong and Cox’s Bazaar on the west. The Chittagong Hill Tracts, formally a single unified district in such divided into three separate districts: Khagrachari, Rangamati and Bandarban.
The Chittagong Hill Tracts region is one of the most disadvantaged and isolated areas in Bangladesh. This area has left the local communities lagging behind in the national social and economic indicators. The social and economic activities were severely disrupted during the insurgency period resulting in the deterioration of the socio-economic conditions of the communities. The CHT communities have not yet been able to recover the setback suffered due to prolonged civil unrest in the CHT region, which needs special attention to ensure overall development of the area as well as improvement in the quality of life of the disadvantaged population.
